An Engagement at Interstate
Every year I do at least 1-2 engagement sessions at Interstate Park in St Croix Falls. When I go it never really disappoints! At Isaac and Allie’s session the leaves were in peak color and we had a beautiful sunset to play with on the beach. Lucky enough they also got to have the boat in some of their photos floating down the river and when we went to the Pothole trail there was hardly anyone there!
Something I’ve been experimenting with is adding a little bit of flash to my images to make them more dynamic. (I’ve done this twice now at Interstate). Sometimes shooting past dark or just into blue hour is a lot of fun! I’m kind of sad that this year the fall color didn’t last very long in our area maybe next year will be different. I’m very hopeful anyway, haha!
Best Photo locations at Interstate Park:
1) Literally anywhere on the Pothole Trail (No Pets)
2) Riverbottom Picnic Area and Beach Access (Pet Accessible)
3) Lake O Dalles Trails
4) Echo Canyon/Summit Rock Trail (If you’re up for a little hike to get out to the river.)
Things to Keep In Mind When Going to Interstate Park:
1) You do need a vehicle admission sticker or day pass to enter the park. An annual pass for residents of WI is $28 a day pass is $8. For out of state its $38 for annual and $11 for a day pass.
2) Be careful in the winter because the summer trails are accessible but not maintained. This means they can get very built up with snow or very icy.
3) The sun does set faster here because of the way the tree line is along the cliffs.
