2024 Wedding Trends

Post pandemic has really changed the wedding industry a lot and we are seeing some similar things as previous years but also some very different things. Many things are actually reverting back to be more traditional and smaller. Most of these trends that I am going to list are trends that I myself are seeing for this year as I am planning with my couples in WI/MN area so this might not be the trends in your area.

  1. No First Looks

This is really no surprise to me and I personally prefer it. Many couples this year are opting for their first look to be during the ceremony. Yes, it is less intimate I would say but I don’t think it is any less special. Traditionally this is a huge deal because it is bad luck to see your bride before the ceremony. I think as our world continues to revert back to the old way of doing things especially since that is currently what social media is feeding us then weddings are going to pretty much follow suit.

2. More Moody Color Schemes With Some Bright Colors AKA Bold Colors

Out are pastels for most of my couples in 2024. Most are opting for moody colors whether they are dark romantic moody or bright and uplifting colors. There is a lot of dark blues, bright oranges, pinks and golds.

3. Backyard Weddings or Very Small Weddings

Many people this year are choosing to have their weddings in their own backyards with a small guest count making it a more intimate event than a large upscale wedding. Smaller weddings are also just becoming more popular because many people are wanting a more intimate setting with their families this leads most people to book smaller wedding venues for their event.

4. Less Photography/Video Coverage

Gone are most of the 10 hour wedding day coverages. Most of my couples this year are opting to have 6-8 hours of wedding coverage. Surprisingly many don’t care for much coverage of themselves getting ready which cuts out a lot of the coverage for the day. Many people are also not interested in having multiple photos of the same guests in the reception coverage and are opting to just have the important things photographed like their first dances and cake cuttings etc…

5. Colored Wedding Dresses

All white is out. Most brides to be this year have ivory wedding dresses and some with different color undertones like nudes, pinks, blues, and purples.

6. Documentary Style Photography

Many couples want a more laid back approach to wedding photography this year which is awesome because this is what I love to do! They want their wedding day to be less about the photos and more about interacting with guests and enjoying everything they’ve worked so hard to plan.

7. Earlier Ceremonies

In previous years many of my ceremonies weren’t until 4pm the trend now is moving more towards 2pm weddings in our area.

8. Wedding Veils

Long or semi long wedding veils are coming back. There was a period of time where no one was wearing wedding veils or they were wearing very short wedding veils. Some wedding veils I’ve already had this year were longer than the dress train itself.

Is there any wedding trends you’re looking forward to? Any that I didn’t put on the list that you are seeing?!
